Veteran Nonprofit Founder Named Finalist for NHL Stick Tap for Service Award

The Warrior For Life Fund President and founder Captain (SEAL) Ryan Croley (Ret) has been named one of four finalists for the 2025 NHL Stick Tap for Service Award, presented by Navy Federal Credit Union. Croley leads a Virginia Beach based nonprofit committed to healing through hockey for Naval Special Warfare and their families. Captain Croley was nominated by former NHL defenseman and tireless advocate for veterans Andrew Alberts.
The NHL Stick Tap for Service Award honors individuals and organizations who exemplify mentorship, sacrifice, and community service within both the hockey and military communities. The grand prize includes tickets to the 2025 Stanley Cup Final and a $30,000 charitable donation, with additional runner-up prizes totaling $20,000.
“This nomination is a tribute to the healing power of hockey and the resilience of our special operations community,” said Croley, President of the Warrior for Life Fund. “We are proud to create a place where our warriors and their families find connection, recovery, and purpose—on and off the ice.”
Recently featured in We Are The Mighty, the Warrior for Life Fund operates year-round hockey programs for active duty and veteran members of Naval Special Warfare, including those living with the invisible wounds of war. Their approach bridges athletic camaraderie with mental wellness and long-term family support.
Navy Federal Credit Union and the NHL teamed up again this year to recognize the outstanding community service of hockey fans and military members with the NHL Stick Tap for Service™ program. We’ll reward them with a trip to a Stanley Cup Final game and a charitable donation.
Celebrate the incredible nominees and their outstanding contributions to the sport. Their dedication exemplifies the spirit of “Hockey is for everyone,” ensuring that the game thrives and unites people from all backgrounds.
