WFLF and Home Base Unite to Launch Resilient Warrior Program for NSW Community
The Warrior for Life Fund (WFLF), in partnership with Home Base, is proud to announce the launch of the Resilient Warrior program in Spring 2025. The Resilient Warrior program provides practical mind-body strategies to help veterans and service members effectively manage stress, enhance resilience, and improve overall well-being. The free, six-week educational course will be available in-person and virtually at WFLF’s Human Performance Center in Virginia Beach, ensuring accessibility for Naval Special Warfare (NSW) veterans and service members.
Home Base is a national nonprofit dedicated to healing the invisible wounds of war for veterans of all eras, service members, military families and families of the fallen through world-class, direct clinical care, wellness, education and research – all at no cost to them – regardless of era of service, discharge status or geographical location. The program was founded by Massachusetts General Hospital and the Boston Red Sox.
“The Resilient Warrior program is an important extension of our mission to serve those who have sacrificed so much,” said Ryan Croley, President and Founder of Warrior for Life Fund. “Community education initiatives like this provide an important starting point for veterans and service members. We’re helping them build new skills and make new connections while also creating opportunities to connect them with local services for more complex challenges such as Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) and Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD).”
The Resilient Warrior program emphasizes learning, practicing, and using their experience with mindfulness skills, mind-body relaxation techniques, sleep hygiene, interpersonal communication, and peer connection. These practices aim to help participants better navigate the unique challenges of military and post-service life and everyday stressors.
“For the first time in its history, Warrior for Life Fund is collaborating with a major medical and research institution,” said Shayla Hayward-Lundy, Resilient Warrior Program Manager. “It’s important to me that we build this program around the unique needs of the Special Operations community, as schedules and accessibility often present significant barriers to engaging in preexisting programs. Cultural competency is another challenge, so we’re bringing in master’s-level practitioners and clinicians who are close friends and family to the people we serve. Genuine connection and understanding are essential for improving health outcomes within any community.”
Through the Resilient Warrior program, WFLF will continue its mission to be a steadfast ally for veterans, service members, and their families. “A small number of active duty and veterans have carried the weight of relentless deployments and have long-term physiological and psychological health implications,” said Frank Simonetti, Board Member of the Warrior for Life Fund. “Programs like Resilient Warrior are essential to giving them the skills and confidence to find their way forward.”
